Steve Jobs "Stay Hungry Stay Foolish" The Apple Guru

Steve Jobs “Stay Hungry Stay Foolish” The Apple Guru

Steve Jobs speech in 2005 at Stanford University Commencement is second best speech I ever heard. Steve Jobs early childhood was not easy growing-up in San Francisco CA. Steve Jobs became creative innovator early in his parents car garage. Steve Jobs started Apple Computer when he was 20 along with his friends Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne in 1976.

“Connecting the Dots Looking Backwards”

In the Commencement speech Steve Jobs had three main stories. First story described how you go about connecting the dots. Steve Jobs parents believed in education unlike a young Steve didn’t really see how college be beneficial. Steve Jobs choose to attend Reed College. Unfortunately, this college was very expensive after six-months Steve Jobs dropped out. Steve Jobs felt spending his parent’s life-savings on education wasn’t worth it. Steve Jobs mentioned in speech  “dropping out of college was the best decision he ever made.” Steve Jobs still had a dream so he decided to spend next 18 months dropping in on creative classes. Jobs later said, “If I had never dropped in on that single calligraphy course in college, the Mac would never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts.” Lastly, he mentioned that have believe in heart, dreams, or feelings. Jobs said, “you can’t connect the dots looking forward you can only connect dots looking backwards.”

“Love and Lost”

The second story is about how he found what love in his work and the woman he feels in love with. Apple Computer grown into billion-dollar business with 4,000 employees. Unfortunately, the Board of Director and John Sculley fired Steve Jobs at the age of 30. He was fired cause the Steve Jobs and John Sculley views were not on one accord. Steve Jobs had been devastated by his separation with Apple. But this made Jobs hunger again. In a short time, he started Next Computer and not long after he began Pixar. Pixar become the biggest animation company in the world. Disney decided to buy Pixar for 7.4 billion dollars. Lastly, he might lose his position at Apple but he still did what he loved at Next Computers and Pixar. Jobs said, “do what you believe is great work and the only way do great work is to do love what you love don’t settle.”

“Death”

The third story he mentioned that we as humans are going to face death. In October of 2003 Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Jobs said, knowing that facing death no reason not to follow your heart you don’t have nothing to lose.”  The doctor indicated only has few months to live. The doctor mentioned goes home and get your affairs in order. Most people find hard to think about death and many people can’t deal with death of any kind.

Lastly, this speech speaks to many in so many ways. Firstly I have a dream to be music entrepreneur every since 10th grade after experience college tour. By attending college tour it broaden my horizon on education and how I could obtain my goals. I faced a lot of adversities trying to reach my goals. My thoughts of trying get my foot in the music industry and always looking forward. But listening to Steve Jobs speech I realized no matter how hard it can become during the path to success never settle. I know that I love music and tired looking for jobs that don’t interest me. However, being a student at Full Sail University is setting the tone for my new future. I know that death will come soon but as long as I am alive I must trust my inner voice don’t let people drowned it with negativity. Steve Jobs taught me to stay hungry and stay foolish; and with that mentality there is nobody in this world who can stop but myself.
